BYD Recalls Over 183,000 Cars in China Over Brake-Light Defect
Chinese automaker BYD is recalling 183,211 vehicles in China after identifying a manufacturing defect in a brake-pedal component that could cause brake lights to remain illuminated when the pedal is released.
The recall takes effect immediately and covers selected Qin and Tang models manufactured between 2014 and 2022, according to Reuters, citing China’s State Administration for Market Regulation.
The affected component is a brake-pedal stopper pad. A manufacturing issue involving certain batches of the material can cause the pad to crack or become damaged after prolonged use. In extreme cases, it may detach, leaving the brake lights continuously illuminated and sending an incorrect signal to drivers behind the vehicle.
The recall includes four vehicle groups:

BYD will arrange for authorised dealerships to replace the affected stopper pads with improved components free of charge. Some vehicles have already received the updated part and will not require another replacement, according to the report.
Owners seeking clarification should contact an authorised BYD dealership with their vehicle identification number to confirm whether their car falls within the recall and whether the necessary repair has already been completed.
