Apple Enters Top Five Smartphone Brands in India

Apple has broken into the top five smartphone brands in India for the first half of 2025, according to IDC data, marking a major milestone in the world’s second-largest mobile market.

Market overview

India’s smartphone shipments grew 2% year-on-year, reaching 60 million units in 1H25. Premium devices above ₹50,000 drove value growth, while mid-range phones in the ₹10,000–₹20,000 range dominated volumes.

Brand performance

  • Samsung slipped 2.5% but held second place with nearly 15% market share.

  • Oppo grew 21% YoY, securing third with 12.3% share.

  • Realme fell to fourth with just over 10%.

  • Apple climbed into the top five, powered by strong iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 demand, along with expanding retail presence in Indian metros.

Regional trends

North India led shipments with 33% share, while southern states recorded the fastest growth. Smaller tier-4 cities such as Mysore and Shimla saw strong double-digit gains, reflecting widening adoption beyond metros.

The big picture

India is now Apple’s fastest-growing market, with the company investing in local assembly and flagship retail stores in Mumbai and Delhi. Analysts expect India’s premium smartphone segment to outpace the broader market through 2026, as rising disposable incomes and financing options boost demand.
